Glider Rides
The Tucson Soaring Club routinely give safe glider rides to individuals and groups from various organizations and conventions. Individuals can take a glider flight of 20 to 30 minutes for a nominal fee. Our glider pilots hold an FAA Commercial license -- the highest level of competency achievable. Because the club operates by volunteer effort, the fee is much lower than at commercial operations. The flights are tailored to the desires of the guest. You can simply glide in motorless flight, looking at the mountains and desert from the air, or (weather permitting) climb in circles like a bird. Aerobatic flights are not offered.
Convention or group rides are pre-arranged, for Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays. We have restroom facilities at the Gliderport, as well as a large shaded porch from which to watch gliders take off and land. We use our four 2-place, tandem seating, gliders for group flights. Because gliders are relatively small aircraft there are weight restrictions -- maximum weight for a visitor is 240 pounds. Groups of up to 30 people can be accommodated during a one day flying session. We usually have excellent weather year-round, however, if the wind exceeds 20 mph, or if it starts to rain, the operation would have to be rescheduled for safety reasons.
We fly quietly and high while providing an unparalleled view of the desert and mountains.
